The Ayrshire Coast Path is a 97 mile (155km) walk along the west coast of southern Scotland, from Glenapp in the south to Skelmorlie in the north. For much of its length the route looks out across the Firth of Clyde to Ailsa Craig, the mountains of the Isle of Arran, and the Mull of Kintyre beyond.
The Ayrshire Coast Path passes through a wonderful variety of beautiful scenery. Not only does it traverse clifftops, walk along sandy beaches, skirt links golf courses and harbour walls, wend its way through dune systems, and march along seafront esplanades, but also crosses stretches of remote moorland and follows grassy coach roads over the hills. History abounds, with castles, churches, memorials, ancient towns and museums all along the route. The legacy of Scotland's national poet, Robert Burns, is apparent throughout.
Highlights of the Ayrshire Coast Path will include the tiny church at Glenapp; the Kennedy Mausoleum at Ballantrae; views north along the clifftop from Lendalfoot to Pinbain Hill and Balsalloch Hill; the sight of Turnberry Lighthouse on its rocky promontory; the magnificent castle at Culzean; the precariously perched ruins of the coastal castles at Dunure, Creenan and Portencross; the spire on the town hall in Ayr; and the panoramic views of the coast, the Isle of Arran and the southern highlands from The Knock.
