The Cleveland Way is a 109 mile (176km) walk which follows a superbly varied horseshoe-shaped route from the market town of Helmsley to Filey. The Cleveland Way stays within the North York Moors National Park and fully justifies its designation as a National Trail.
Rolling heather moorland, rocky escarpments with far reaching views, river valleys, towering seacliffs, ruined abbeys, historic crosses and attractive fishing villages all feature on this magnificent route and, hopefully, the timing of this holiday will see the heather moorland at its colourful best.
Highlights of the route include the peaceful ruins of Rievaulx Abbey and Mount Grace Priory; the Kilburn White Horse; the wonderful views west from the Cleveland escarpment, the rocky outcrop of the Wainstones and the airy walk along Hasty Bank; the award-winning tearoom at Kildale; the 360º panorama from the summit of Roseberry Topping; the view down onto Staithes harbour and Cowbar Nab; the 199 steps up to Whitby Abbey; the red roofs and cobbled streets of Robin Hood's Bay; and the views out into the North Sea from the end of Filey Brigg.
