Anglesey Coast Path
South Section 6 days walking, based in Beaumaris
Beaumaris, our base for the southern section of the Anglesey Coast Path, is located on the coast of the Isle of Anglesey, at the eastern end of the entrance to the Menai Strait. During Saxon times Beaumaris was an important harbour and ship building centre. In 1295 Edward I commissioned the building of a string of North Wales castles and Beaumaris became the capital of the Isle of Anglesey (Ynys Mon). Beaumaris Castle is regarded as the finest example of a concentric castle and the building dominates the town. Other notable buildings in the town include the town gaol, the parish church of St Mary, the 17th century courthouse, and one of the oldest original timber framed buildings in Britain. Beaumaris has a number of hotels, restaurants and pubs serving food in the evening.
The daily meeting point in Beaumaris is outside the Old Courthouse Museum on Castle Street.
