Great Walks in the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons

6 days walking, based in Crickhowell

Our tour base

The Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons provide some splendid wild walking, and an unusual blend of accessibility and loneliness. Stiff climbs are rewarded by panoramic views of the Welsh mountains, the Malvern Hills and the Bristol Channel, long whaleback ridges lead to airy escarpments, and mountain streams tumble into the quiet valleys.

Beacons Crest

Beacons Crest - Wales Tourist Board

Highlights of the six walks selected include a traverse of Pen-y-Fan, Corn Du and Cribyn, the three main summits of the Beacons Crest, the dramatic waterfalls at Ystradfellte, the rocky summit ridge of the Sugar Loaf, an ascent of Waun Fach along the Dragon's Back ridge, looking down onto Gospel Pass from Hay Bluff, and the views of Langorse Lake from Mynydd Langorse.
