Crickhowell, our base for ‘Great Walks in the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons’, is a thriving market town within the Brecon Beacons National Park. It is located on the River Usk and surrounded by the Black Mountains which rise to 2,300’, and the Brecon Beacons, which rise to 2,907’. There are a number of pubs and restaurants which serve food in the evenings.

The daily meeting point in Crickhowell is outside the Tourist Information Centre on Beaufort Street.

Accommodation

There is a reasonable variety of accommodation in Crickhowell, including hotels, bed and breakfast guesthouses and self-catering cottages. The nearest Youth Hostels are at Talybont-on-Usk (Danywenallt) and Brecon. Additionally there is plenty of accommodation in Abergavenny (6 miles distant) and surrounding villages.

How to reach Crickhowell by public transport

The nearest railway station is at Abergavenny (6 miles distant). From Abergavenny railway station there are buses operated by Sixty-Sixty Coaches (the X43) to Crickhowell every two hours, Monday to Saturday, with a journey time of 20 minutes. National Express run a frequent coach service to Cardiff, and from Cardiff Sixty-Sixty Coaches run services to Crickhowell.
