Our tour base

The Cumbria Way is a 70 mile walk which provides an excellent introduction to the splendours of the Lake District. Every bend of the path on this magnificent walk offers a new and breathtaking view.

The route runs from Ulverston, in the south of the region, below the Coniston Fells, past tranquil Tarn Hows, to reach the thunderous waterfall at Skelwith Bridge. From here the route wends its way along the beautiful green valley of Langdale to cross Stake Pass and then descends into lonely Langstrothdale and dramatic Borrowdale. We walk through Borrowdale and along the peaceful shores of Derwentwater to reach Keswick. From Keswick the route follows the Glenderaterra river into the wild country beyond Skiddaw and then onwards to the village of Caldbeck. From Caldbeck we make our way into Carlisle to reach journey’s end at the city’s historic castle.

We shall schedule the walking over six days rather than five and include (as a prelude to the fourth stage) a four mile loop above Borrowdale which takes in Watendlath Tarn, one of Lakeland’s best loved beauty spots. Despite this optional extra ‘route baggers’ need not worry - we shall still be completing the whole of the Cumbria Way!
