Mendip Way

5 days walking, based in Wells

Our tour base

The Mendip Way combines two previously separate paths; the West Mendip Way and The East Mendip Way, and traverses the full range of the Mendip Hills. Starting on the Somerset coast, by the tiny church at Uphill, it explores the broad vales and high ridges of the western Mendip, the central high limestone plateau around Priddy, Cheddar and Charterhouse, and the small wooded combes to the east of Wells. The walk finishes in the ancient market town of Frome.

Highlights of the walk include the exhilarating ridges of Bleadon Hill, Crook Peak and Wavering Down with their far reaching views across the Bristol Channel to South Wales; the magnificent cliffs of Cheddar Gorge; the attractive villages of Priddy, Shipham and Draycott; and the historic city of Wells which provides a great base for this tour. The timing of this tour should see the woodland bluebells at their best.
