Monnow Valley Way

4 days walking, based in Hay-on-Wye

Our tour base

The Monnow Valley Walk loosely follows the course of the River Monnow (Welsh for 'swift river') from its confluence with the Wye at the historic town of Monmouth to its source in the Black Mountains, below Hay Bluff.

The route passes through a Marches landscape steeped in history and rich in reminders of a turbulent past. The scenery is a varied and tranquil mix of rich farmland and pasture, interspersed with patches of woodland and stretches of attractive riverside footpath. In October the countryside should be rich in autumn colours and the hedgerows bright with berries. Attractive towns and villages visited enroute include Monmouth, Skenfrith, Grosmont, Clodock and Hay-on-Wye. The famous 'book town' of Hay-on-Wye makes an interesting base for this tour.
