Offa’s Dyke Path, South - Abergavenny

tour details

Abergavenny, our base for the southern section of the Offa’s Dyke Path, is the gateway to the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Black Mountains. It sits on the river Usk surrounded by unspoilt countryside and superb walking. Although the Offa’s Dyke Path does not pass through Abergavenny the town is well placed in relation to the route, and has all a range of facilities and accommodation. The parish church of St Mary has some interesting architectural features, and was originally the 11th century chapel of a Benedictine priory. The 11th century castle is now in ruins, having been destroyed during the Civil War. Abergavenny has a wide variety of shops, restaurants and pubs serving food in the evenings. Although the Offa’s Dyke Path does not pass through Abergavenny the town is well placed in relation to the route.

The daily meeting point in Abergavenny is outside the Tourist Information Centre, adjacent to the bus station and main car park.
