Pennine Way - Central
Hawes, our base for the central section of the Pennine Way, is a bustling market town located in Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The Pennine Way runs through the middle of the town. Hawes is home to the Wensleydale cheese and a world-famous rope manufacturers and the Tuesday market draws in both locals and visitors. Hawes has a number of pubs and restaurants offering food in the evenings.

How to reach Hawes by public transport
The nearest railway station to Hawes is Garsdale Head (six miles distant) on the Settle to Carlisle line. There are local buses (Harrogate & District service No. 113) from Garsdale to Hawes.
Although Garsdale is the nearest station it is not always the most convenient, particularly if there is any engineering work on the Settle to Carlisle line. Another station to consider is Northallerton (36 miles distant) as there is a regular bus service (Dales & District service No. 156/157) between Northallerton station and Hawes.
