Pennine Way - Hebden Bridge
Hebden Bridge, our base for the southern section of the Pennine Way, is a former mill town which grew up in the early 19th century when its location in the Calder Valley made it a prime site for development during the Industrial Revolution.
The town became famous for the production of heavy cotton cloth, but it’s prosperity declined under prssure from foreign competition. Today those mill building which still remain have been converted to smart appartments and Hebden Bridge has a wide range of shops, pubs and restaurants offering food in the evenings.
The daily meeting point in Hebden Bridge is outside the Visitor and Canal Centre on Butlers Wharf.
