Wessex Ridgeway, North - Warminster
Warminster, our base for the northern half of the Wessex Ridgeway,is a medium-sized market town with a number of fine buildings dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. It has a 14th century Minster Church, and a prestigious school which was attended by Dr Thomas Arnold who later became headmaster of Rugby School. Longleat House and Safari Park are situated four miles outside the town.
Warminster has become famous for a number of sightings of UFOs, although many prefer to attribute them to the activities of the army on nearby Salisbury Plain!.
Warminster has a range of shops, restarants and pubs offering food in the evenings. The daily meeting point in Warminster is outside the Tourist Information Centre in the central car park.
