West Highland Way

8 days walking and one transfer day
(8 - 11 June based in Balloch, 12 June rest/transfer day, 13 - 16 June based in Glencoe)

A walk of some 95 miles (153kms) along Scotland’s first National Trail takes us from Milngavie near Glasgow to Fort William, passing through a unique and stunning mountain landscape along the way. The Way begins gently through the farmland in the shadow of the Campsie Fells to reach Drymen. From here we strike off along the ‘bonnie banks of Loch Lomond’ to reach Crianlarich where the highland nature of the walk begins in earnest. From Tyndrum we cross Rannoch Moor to Kingshouse.

Beyond Kingshouse we must negotiate the ‘Devil’s Staircase’ (not as tough as it sounds!) at the head of Glen Coe to reach the small highland town of Kinlochleven. From Kinlochleven we walk through the rugged Lairigmor Pass to reach journey’s end at Fort William. As well as the stunning scenery there is a wealth of folklore and history associated with points along the way.

On this particular tour logistical considerations mean that we shall change from one base to another part way through the tour (see above). There is a Scottish Citylink bus service direct from Balloch to Glencoe.
