West Highland Way - Glencoe
Glencoe Village, our base for the northern section of the West Highland Way, is situated at the entrance to the impressive and brooding valley of Glen Coe. It is famous as the site of the Glen Coe Massacre in 1692, when soldiers, under orders from politically motivated officers of the Clan Campbell, rose up and slaughtered their hosts, the MacDonalds of Glencoe. There is an interesting Visitor Centre in the village. The village has a general store and there are several restaurants and pubs, in both Glencoe and the conjoined village of Ballachulish, which serve food in the evening.
The daily meeting point in Glencoe is outside the Glen Coe Hotel, which is close to the main car park.
