The Cotswolds

The Cotswold Hills is a picturesque and quintessentially English landscape in which the stone-built villages lie in such harmony with their rural surroundings that they appear to be hewn from the earth by nature itself. Only by walking through the countryside can one truly experience the unique blend of natural and man-made beauty which characterises one of England’s best-loved areas.

Designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1966, the Cotswolds Hills is a green and verdant area where steep scarp slopes rise above the Severn Vale to form a high rolling plateau which dips gradually to the east. Lush pastures, limestone grassland and deciduous woodland are criss-crossed by a tracery of dry stone walls. Idyllic villages, manor houses and churches, built from same warm honey-coloured local stone, complete the picture.

Your walks will take you through the world-famous villages of Chipping Campden - ‘the Jewel of the Cotswolds’ - and Broadway, as well as lesser-known gems such as Ebrington, Hidcote Boyce and Hidcote Bartrim. You will experience the exhilaration of far-reaching views from Fish Hill and Dover’s Hill and enjoy the tranquility of the meadow grass along the broad ridge linking the two. In early June orchids proliferate in the combes below Broadway Tower and in autumn the beechwoods above Mickleton put on a wonderful show of colour. Many people visit the Cotswolds - far fewer walk through it. Those people that have discovered its charms return again and again.

You will stay at Three Ways House Hotel in the north Cotswold village of Mickleton. As well as having the distinction of being the home of the Pudding Club the hotel holds an AA Rosette for the excellent quality of its food. It also holds a 'Silver' award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme. The individually furnished bedrooms are comfortable and well-appointed. The helpful and welcoming staff were singled out for particular praise by hotel critic Paddy Burt in her 'Room Service' column in the Daily Telegraph.

Three Ways House won the accolade of 'Best Small Hotel' in the South West Tourism Excellence Awards in 2006. We have been working with Three Ways House for the past ten years and can tell you that the title was thoroughly deserved.
