Self-guided Walking Holidays
The Lake District, England’s only true mountain area, derives its name from the spectacular natural lakes, or ‘meres’, which lie in green, glacially-sculpted valleys, surrounded by craggy peaks. This unique landscape, which has been nominated as one of National Geographic’s top ten ‘must-see’ destinations in the world, has an excellent network of well-maintained paths, which criss-cross the hillsides, give access to the mountain tops, and follow the lake shores, so we are able to offer itineraries for both ‘Easy’ and ‘Moderate’ grade tours.
The individual walks will depend upon the grade of the tour, however, they will all pass through the wonderful scenery of the valleys and lakeshores of the central Lake District, visiting Rydal, Langdale, the surging waterfall at Skelwith Bridge, and lonely Easedale Tarn. Memories of the breathtaking panorama from Loughrigg Terrace, and the superb view of Windermere and the Coniston Fells from Jenkin Crag will never be forgotten.
Bed & Breakfast option
Your holiday in the Lake District will be based at a comfortable family-run guest house in the centre of the village of Grasmere. Your room will have ensuite facilities (private bathroom) and you will have a choice of continental or full English breakfast. Grasmere has a good range of pubs and restaurants serving meals in the evening.
Dinner, Bed & Breakfast option
Your holiday in the Lake District will be based at the Grasmere Red Lion Hotel [ETC/AA***], which stands in the centre of the picturesque mountain village of Grasmere, close to the church where William Wordsworth, the Lakeland poet, lies buried. The Red Lion offers a warm welcome, excellent accommodation and superb food, all bedrooms have ensuite facilities (private bathroom). The hotel has a heated indoor swimming pool.
