The Clarendon Way and St Swithun's Way are two historic routes which, when combined, provide 62 miles (99kms) of walking across the beautiful landscape of Wiltshire and Hampshire. The route visits two magnificent cathedral cities, and provides a link to the North Downs Way and the historic pilgrims' route to Canterbury Cathedral. By using the newly established Great Stones Way it is also possible to link the North Downs Way and the South Downs Way (which terminates at Winchester) to the western end of the Ridgeway National Trail.

The Clarendon Way takes its name from the medieval hunting lodge on the eastern edge of the cathedral city of Salisbury and packs in a whole variety of scenery on the 26 mile route from Salisbury Cathedral to Winchester Cathedral. Downland drove roads, quiet farmland, ribbons of deciduous woodland and the pastoral surroundings of three wonderful chalk streams - the Wiltshire Avon, the Test and the Itchen - all feature on the route.

St Swithun's Way continues eastwards and links Winchester, the Saxon capital of England, to the town of Farnham in Surrey, which prior to the Norman Conquest, was the site of a great minster church, owned by the Bishop of Winchester, and the Pilgrims' Way. Enroute it passes through the handsome Hampshire towns Alton and Alresford, and visits Chawton, the home of Jane Austen.
