Classic Walks in the Shropshire Hills

6 days walking, based in Ludlow

Our tour base

The Shropshire Hills have long been a favourite area for the discerning, but remain untrodden by the vast majority of British walkers. The Stretton Hills area to the north of Ludlow is known as 'Little Switzerland'; one look at the landscape and you will understand the reason why. To those who have not visited the area the scale of the landscape is entirely unexpected. Shropshire's Clee Hills, to the west of Ludlow, offer far-reaching views across The Marches to the Welsh Mountains.

The Shropshire Hills offer a sense of remoteness with superb ridges and expansive views on all sides. We will explore the isolated valleys which cut deep into the south east flank of the Long Mynd, with their rushing streams, rocky outcrops, and abundance of hawthorn, and traverse the airy ridges of the Lawley, Ragleth Hill and Caer Caradoc where the short springy grass drapes over the hillsides like velvet. We will climb to the summits of Brown Clee and Titterstone Clee; traverse the jagged ridge of the Stiperstones and enjoy the panorama from Wenlock Edge.
