Cotswold Highlights
Chipping Campden to Painswick (highlights)
9 nights; 8 days walking
The world-renown Cotswold Way runs the length of the high Cotswold escarpment with wonderful views to the west, however the Cotswold AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) has much more to offer. This holiday explores a wider area in a series of walks which pick out some of the highlights of the AONB, using not only some excellent sections of the Cotswold Way but also some of the equally beautiful but lesser known paths and trails. The picturesque honey-coloured stone-built villages are the focus of this holiday.
Towns and villages visited include Chipping Campden, Broadway, Stanton, Stanway, Winchcombe, Guiting Power, Snowshill, Naunton, Bourton-on-the-Water, The Slaughters Stow-on-the-Wold, Crawley, Minster Lovell, Swinbrook, Burford, Bibury, Arlington Row, Coln St Aldwyns, The Duntisbournes, Cirencester, Bisley, Slad and Painswick.
Although this is a 'moving on' itinerary, with new accommodation each evening so that you can enjoy spending time in some of the most attractive towns and villages in the Cotswolds, there is some transport involved. On most mornings there will be a short journey to the start of the day's walk, but you will then walk directly to your next guesthouse, so no pressure to meet transport at the end of the day. The journey at the start of the day means a degree of flexibility in that on some days there will be a choice of start point and walk length, and that choice can be made on the day.
Extra nights and non-walking days can be arranged, and Chipping Campden, Stow-on-the-Wold, Cirencester and Painswick are all towns packed with historical interest that would reward additional exploration.
